Pink – The New Color of Champions with Keli Van Cleve

Question: Keli, what is Pink Outdoors?

Van Cleave: I’ve hunted and fished with my dad since I was very young, and my main concern was I didn’t want to give up my femininity to be an outdoor person. So, I still fixed my hair and painted my fingernails. I wore pants under my dresses, so I could still be a girl and feel like a girl, even while I was hunting and fishing. When I was selected to fish in the US Fly Fishing Championships, I wanted a pink rod. I wanted to be a lady, even though I was a fisherman, but nobody made pink fly rods. So, in 2000, I met with a few outdoor companies, requesting they make pink products for ladies. In 2000, I got my first pink fly rod. I learned that other women in the outdoors wanted pink hunting and fishing equipment just like me. So, I formed a company that would carry every outdoor product made in pink to provide a place for anyone to get pink outdoors equipment. (read more)
